Interview With Ahmed Kotb

Ahmed Kotb is a Residential Coordinator for the London Engineering Project. He was a resident expert on the site and users had the chance to ask him their engineering questions.

One user asked him: "Does engineering pay well?"

In a nutshell - Yes! Pay is on par to being a Doctor / Lawyer etc.

The immediate prospects for a graduate engineer is good. Their starting salaries tend to be above average, around £19,000 in 2003 with engineers earning 15% above the typical graduate salary of £16,500.

The average earnings of Chartered Engineers in 2005 are £53,100 compared with £40,100 in 1997 – an increase of 32.5%. Incorporated Engineers have seen the highest increase in average earnings, up from an average in 1997 of £29,900 to £40,500 in 2005, an increase of 35.5%. Engineering Technicians have seen an increase in average earnings, from £26,300 in 1997 to £33,800 in 2005 – a rise of 28.5%.
