Fun ideas for charity fundraising
Raising money for charity is a really good and rewarding way to spend your holidays, but it doesn’t have to involve shaking collecting tins in people’s faces. Read on for some top tips to put the ‘fun’ into fundraising.
Get sporty
Getting people to sponsor you for a sports activity is a great way to both raise money and keep fit. You could do a sponsored run, where people give you a certain amount of money per mile, or organise a charity football match with people sponsoring the teams. You could also get the teams to play in fancy dress to make things more interesting. The really brave might want to take part in a sponsored parachute or bungee jump.
Get partying
Most people like any excuse for a party, and what better reason than raising money for a good cause? After you’ve charged people for their tickets there are all sorts of other ways to get them to donate more cash, from party games to dancing competitions. You could also bake some cakes or other food to sell. But if you’re the kind of person who’s normally thinking about food, getting sponsored to give up your favourite treats for a few weeks could help to both raise money and reduce your waistline!
Get silly
There are all kinds of things you can do if you don’t mind looking a bit daft. This might also mean getting a bit messy, especially if you get sponsored to sit in a bath of beans or have a custard pie-throwing competition. You can keep cleaner and still clean up the cash though, particularly if you organise a daft game like welly-wanging, a conkers championship or even wormcharming to show what a good sport you are.
Get the cash!
This is the important bit of course – don’t have so much fun that you forget to make any money out of it! People need to know what you’re doing if they’re going to give you money for it, so tell everyone you know and make up some posters and send around some emails advertising your event. As well as asking your own family and friends, the charity you’re fundraising for should also have a database of supporters you can contact.
It’s also a good idea to set up your own fundraising page on a website like Just Giving, you can then just send out a link to your page and it’s easy for people to make a donation with a few clicks and their credit card. An online fundraising page also makes it easy for charities to claim Gift Aid, which is when charities reclaim the tax on people's donations, making all that money and hard work go a little bit further.
