But with the tonnes of useful websites and organisations available, it doesn’t have to be an uphill struggle. Check out the following sites for useful tips and advice to give you a smoother ride as a parent.

Student Parents

Everything you need to know about balancing the pressures of raising children with study, this website contains an interactive budget calculator specifically for student parents, which works out how much money you can get in child support and student loans. There's also plenty of tips on study skills, childcare options and where to find additional support, alongside interviews with other student parents giving first-hand advice on how to cope. 

Gingerbread

This single-parent organisation for under 25s produces a fact pack called Young Mums. It offers advice on how to tell others you are pregnant, a top 10 list for new mums and a benefits guide.

Young Mums To Be

Take a course and learn practical skills about motherhood such as antenatal advice, broader healthcare issues, numeracy and communication skills. There are also fun quizzes on this website that anyone can enjoy.

Bliss

This charity supports parents of babies born “too soon, too small, too sick.” It explains everything you might need to know as a parent such as what happens in a special care baby unit, guidance on breast-feeding and returning to education. You can download a free Young Parents’ Information Guide and there is also an Agony Aunt service.

Lone Parents

This great website includes a lone parent survival guide, advice for single parent dads, tips on returning to work and lots of useful links to other supportive websites.

One Up Magazine

One-up is an online magazine for single and step parents, offering real personal stories, relevant articles and useful advice on finances, legal matters, relationships and more.
