Alan Sugar left his school in Hackney, at the age of 16, to start his first business venture- selling car aerials and electric goods out of a van bought for £100.
In 1968, he founded computer manufacturers Amstrad, which he sold to Sky in July 2007.
A former Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur FC, Alan is now worth an estimated £730m and is ranked 89th in the 2011 Sunday Times rich list.
Lord Sugar’s current business ventures include AMSAIR, which offers business and executive jets to a number of high profile clients around the world, AMSPROP, a property investment firm and VIGLEN, a manufacturer specialising in computers, networks and solutions.
He is also the judge of BBC reality TV competition The Apprentice.
In 2000, Lord Sugar was knighted for his services to business and he holds two honorary Doctorates of Science degrees, awarded by City University and Brunel University respectively.
In 2009, he was named Enterprise Champion and appointed to the House of Lords as Baron Sugar of Clapton in the London Borough of Hackney, for his campaign work promoting the benefits of apprenticeships.
Lord Sugar is a philanthropist for a number of charities including Great Ormond Street Hospital and Jewish Care.

I think he became so succesful because of his trade and his ways and means of trading. I think his key was to earn money buy buying goods cheaply, mabye second-hand or broken, fixed them for a cheap price and sold them expensively. This would help him achieve where he is now!
